Bahamas Travel Diary

Take me away…..

….to the Bahamas, that is.  Ever had limited time or money and you just want a quick escape, a stress relief weekend and just some plain ole R & R (rest and relaxation)?  I DO!!! And recently I got just that- Let’s head to the Bahamas, somewhere, warm and exotic.  These islands are one of the most visited tourists spots in the world.   The weather is perfect year round so if soaking up some sun is a hobby- this is your HAPPY PLACE.

-The waters are mesmerizing, crystal-clear,  and a beautiful turquoise.  The sand is white- pristine white – making it a beautiful contrast against the sky.   With the gorgeous waters, scuba diving and snorkeling are top rated and very affordable.  There are a variety of fish and marine life, coral, shipwrecks, and reefs.  Beautiful shells and whole sand dollars dot the beaches. Life just becomes very interesting in the Bahamas- the premier destination for under water activities.

-Bahamian food is delicious and they have certainly mastered it with conch, a plentiful shellfish.  I have tasted conch soup, conch fritters, even conch pizza.  However, seafood is also plentiful and so FRESH! Also, apparently fresh conch is really good for the guys, so be sure to try the conch salad!

-The people are like family -so welcoming, friendly and warm. I especially noticed this not only in restaurants but shopping.  There are hundreds of market places which show off their heritage and culture.  Each market is filled with literally thousands of products at bargain prices.  It really is a shoppers paradise and since they accept our currency, it makes it so fun and exciting to ‘wheel and deal’.

-The Bahamas are also known for many outdoor activities, golf, parasailing, and water sports.  All so affordable, fun, and exciting.   The Bahamas equates with ‘good for the soul’, allowing for a re-focusing for the week ahead – just a breath of fresh air and may I add the trip comes HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

There are some GORGEOUS islands that are a must visit for us. Nassau and Freeport are two very popular islands, I would highly recommend Nassau. But don’t forget about the hidden gems – these two are next on our list.

Exuma and Bimini are absolutely gorgeous. Exuma is famous for swimming with the pigs – an expensive resort excursion. These islands are absolutely breathtaking and so affordable. They will remind you of some of the richest islands in the world.
